Zinnia colorful oil painting floral still life by Hoeptner

Zinnias  Oil on wood  12" x 12"  NFS
Thank you to everyone who took the time to comment and email me about my little Russy-roo-roo/Nephew painting.  Facebook friends, you too!  Painting something new + the realization that you are watching makes for a sweet burst of renewed confidence and energy going forward.  I will be sure to paint his older brother before the end of the year.

Magenta Zinnias big colorful floral paintings

Magenta Zinnias  Oil on paper  21" x 7"  NFS
Happy with these!  They round out this series very nicely.  Although, now I'm tempted to go back and add a background pattern to "Free Range Roses I & II."  Mmm.

Trying to go for a looser more painterly application with these zinnias.  Liking 'em so far.

The Zinnias I & II flower pink orange

The Zinnias I & II  Oil on wood each 6" x 6"
Heehee, I love this quote from Tilda Swinton via a British paper called Metro:  “People who have careers set out to have careers. I always find that very admirable and awe-inspiring, this idea of shooting an arrow with a thread attached way into the future and then pulling yourself up, but I never had that sense. I don’t want to sound ungrateful but I am literally making it up as I go along.”

More zinnias!  I tried to paint these a little looser and rougher--hoping to have more of the acrylic background peek through.  They look more integrated this way, I may try a few more.   Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

It was soooo good to get back in the studio today!  I was looking forward to painting Maria's zinnias again, this time around with more of their natural color.

Dragonfly Zinnias I & II original painting Hoeptner

Dragonfly Zinnias   Acrylic & Oil on wood   each 10" x 10"  NFS
Yes, I'm still messing with the acrylics.  The zinnias above are based on photographs my friend Maria sent me.  They grow in her garden in Culver City, CA.  I'm afraid I "blanched" them for design purposes, but next time around we'll try them in full color.  Thanks again for the pictures, Maria!
