Brother's Keeper, Love and Hisses

Brother's Keeper  Oil on panel, 8" x 8,"  SOLD
If you notice anything "extra" in today's painting and maybe several to follow, it's thanks to Robyn at Love and Hisses.  Robyn fosters kittens and cats from her beautiful home in Huntsville, AL.  She takes incredible photographs of them, romping, resting and doin' what they do in a relaxed environment. She has honored me with permission to use her photos as painting reference. Thank you, Robyn!! Find more of Robyn's kitty goodness on Facebook and Instagram
"Brother's Keeper" -- I am trying to avoid over blending! It's a hard habit to break. But I made some progress in that regard on this painting.

Idea Cat and my kitchen tile

Idea Cat  Oil on panel 8" x 8,"  SOLD
This is the second time I painted this sweet cat from the shelter, the first time was here.
This afternoon my husband and I picked up 118 pounds of "Glass Beach Blend Amalfi" tiles for the kitchen. They are subway tiles with a mix of shiny and frosted tiles in white and grayish green and will be accented with a narrow runner of more saturated green glass tile.  Still waffling on grout color, but psyched to see them installed! Pictures soon.

Brutus, a new cat painting

Brutus  Oil on panel, 8"x8,"  NFS
A handsome kitty from the shelter in LA... He needed something a little more fancy from which to survey his kingdom. Though, I might have bitten off a little more than I could chew with the ornate table.

Flint

Flint  Oil on canvas, 6"x6," SOLD
"Flint" painting nearly got flung, it really didn't come together 'til the last hour.  My mantra (some days, definitely today) "done is better than perfect."

I try not to question or overthink when inspiration strikes...  As I mentioned yesterday, it was a post on Facebook...  I'm doing a few versions of that general idea... (because cats and sheep!)  Here's the first. :)
Finalists!
Very happy to report two of my paintings are finalists in the Richeson75 International Art Competition "Animals, Birds & Wildlife 2017" They've posted award winners and finalists here. Have a look!

Oh the joy that is new paint brushes... Today was a good day to paint Terence the Tabby.  (Side note:  If you are clicking here from my  Fall 2017 newsletter, please accept my apology, I listed both the wrong size and price for this painting.)

The Tyrant Tabby

The Tyrant Tabby  Oil on panel, 8" x 6,"  SOLD
Dare I say I feel renewed vigor this week? I had myself convinced I was sick of painting cats which is preposterous.  A few more feline goodies to follow "The Tyrant Tabby" this week. (Some glare on photo of this painting, it's better in life.)

Sleeper

Sleeper  Oil on panel, 6" x 6,"  SOLD
On any given day at the shelter, you'll find most of the cats in a quiet state of drowsiness or deep in slumber. No wonder, as cats generally spend 16-20 hours sleeping. I didn't have the heart to rouse this one...  (See more sleeping cat paintings, here.)

This cat aka "Rebecca" now has an adoption profile on the Cleveland APL shelter website.  She'd make a great companion! Here's a link.

Bea  Oil on wood, 10" x 10,"  NFS
Back in the studio painting, yes!  ...and plenty of fresh inspiration after a photo shoot at the Cleveland APL.  "Bea" (not her actual name) waits for adoption there.  She's a sweetie, don't be surprised if you see more paintings of her soon.

Liza Bean and Cleveland Bazaar this weekend

Liza Bean  Oil on wood  8" x 8"  SOLD
This pet portrait commission was fun to paint. "Liza Bean" is said by her human to be a "darling, opinionated biter of a kitty."
This weekend is the 10th annual "Cleveland Bazaar" an indie craft show.  It's happening at 78th ST Studios.  Should you be shopping for that one of a kind, handcrafted, locally made gift, it's worth checking out with over 140 vendors.   Gallery + will be open during the show, so stop in if you get a chance.
I've added more paintings, posters and works on paper to Gallery +
all will be available during the 10th annual Cleveland Bazaar.
